Festival commission

The Beccles Festival has commissioned the East Anglian based composer, Alan Bullard, to write a new piece specially for this orchestra.  Alan is one of the UK’s most highly regarded contemporary musicians whose wide-ranging and appealing music is performed and broadcast world-wide. His new work, to be called ‘Hark to the Bells’ was inspired by a visit to Beccles bell-tower, as he explains: “Climbing the bell-tower was a wonderful experience, suggesting a number of musical ideas – not just the sound of bells and the techniques of ringing, but the view of the vast landscape over which the ten bells cast their sound.”  This piece will be rehearsed over the two play days and will receive its world premier at the start of the final concert of the Festival in St Michael’s Church at 7.30pm on Sunday 23rd September.
